Rock Rapids, Iowa — It’s too late to sign up for the actual golf tournament, because it’s full, but the annual Dave Mulder Memorial Foundation golf benefit is coming up in Rock Rapids, and you can still help the foundation in other ways.
The tournament is this coming Saturday, August 2nd at the Rock River Golf & Country Club in Rock Rapids.
One of the people organizing the tournament, Mulder’s wife Joy De Jongh, tells us that when it started nine years ago, it was to help pay for Mulder’s medical expenses. But today, because Mulder always had a giving spirit, the tournament has other goals.
Dave Mulder was the son of Leon Mulder, who was a race car driver for many years, and now Dave’s son Jackson drives with Dave’s old number — #4. So even the golf tournament has a racing theme.
One of the other organizers, Terry Penning tells us there are many fun holes and other activities and challenges during the tournament. He tells us about one of them.
They tell us they do payouts to win, but so far, each winner has given the money back to the foundation for a donation.
De Jongh tells us about another part of the tournament — a benefit auction.
De Jongh says there will also be a benefit bake sale at the golf course, and you can also take part in the chip challenge, even if you can’t golf.
She tells us about the cause that they have picked for this year’s funds.
Kevin and Audra Christian are from Sioux Center, and Kevin was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma in March 2025.
