Sheldon, Iowa — Ground has been broken and work has officially started on the Sheldon High School addition and renovation project. A 19-million-dollar bond issue was passed in November. The total project cost is estimated to be $32.9 million.

At the ceremony, Superintendent Cory Myer thanked the general contractor, Klinger Construction, and CMBA Architects. He also thanked the Sheldon Community School District Board of Education.

The superintendent also thanked the KIDS Committee. He says he was impressed with the vision of the communities of Sheldon, Ashton, Archer, and Matlock.

There were refreshments and the Sheldon High School Band even played the Sheldon School Song. Skip Tanner spoke on behalf of the Sheldon Ambassadors and presented the golden shovel.

Mr. Myer gave those assembled an idea of what the project will look like.

To end the ceremony, those involved turned some dirt to officially kick off the construction.
