Lake Park, Iowa — On Thursday afternoon, the Harris-Lake Park School Board awarded bids for the new Elementary school to be constructed adjacent to the Middle School-High School facility.
The low base bid of a little more than $15 million was awarded to Hoogendoorn Construction of Canton, South Dakota. Three bids were received. Superintendent Gary Richardson says HVAC equipment, grading for a bus barn, and some other add-ons bump the grand total up to a little more than the $18.6 million in bonding that was approved.
Given the budget, the board opted NOT to include a practice track and practice football field.
A public hearing on a proposal to issue $1.6 million in revenue bonds that would be used for renovations at the middle school-high school will be held at the board’s August 6th meeting.
Richardson says sitework for the new elementary is scheduled to start very soon.
Richardson says the substantial completion date for the new elementary has been pushed back to March, 2026 due to the recent flooding.
