Highway 75 Project Continues In Sioux Center

Sioux Center, Iowa — The multi-year Sioux Center Highway 75 project continues. Highway 75 underwent a significant closure on Saturday, April 5, affecting the stretch between Fifth Street South, near the Axis Apartments (formerly Franken Manor), and Second Street North, close to Coop Gas & Oil.

Sioux Center officials say that during the closure, the Fifth Street South intersection will remain open for access. Initially, the Second Street North intersection near Fruited Plain will also stay open, though it is scheduled to close later this month to accommodate utility work in that area.

For now, Highway 75 remains open with a single lane available in each direction between Ninth Street, where the Snieder Insurance traffic signal is located, and Fifth Street South. Crews will be hard at work installing sidewalks, streetlights, and median streetscape, so drivers are urged to exercise caution as they travel through the construction zone. Truck traffic will be rerouted via 20th Street Southeast, then to 13th Street East, and continuing on to 20th Street Northeast. Businesses and properties within the closure area will still be accessible, but visitors should use side streets for entry.

Progress has already been made this year on several fronts. A portion of the 20th Street South intersection has been replaced with permanent pavement. Water mains have been installed along various sections, including the east side of Highway 75 between Fifth and Third Street South, as well as the west side between Fifth and Fourth Street South and from First to Second Street South. Additionally, a storm sewer was added along Second Street Southwest, running from Highway 75 to First Avenue West. The southeast turning radius at the 20th Street South intersection has also been successfully paved.

Looking ahead, the project will focus on continuing water main installations between Fourth Street South and Second Street North. Improvements to the east driveway of the library parking lot are planned, and Highway 75 access to the library will remain temporarily open during this phase of work. Crews will also press on with installing sidewalks, streetlights, and median streetscape along Highway 75 between Ninth and Fifth Street South. Finally, existing pavement will be removed along the stretch from Fifth Street South to Second Street North.

The City says they thank residents and travelers for their patience and cooperation as crews make progress on the 2025 portion of the Highway 75 construction project.
