Inwood, Iowa — The Inwood Fire Department was called out to a couple of fires recently.
On Thursday, firefighters were paged to a car fire right in Inwood, on Maple Street. Inwood Fire Chief Troy Van Beek says that when firefighters got there, flames could be seen under the hood.
The fire, which was called in about 2:30 p.m., appears to have started in the engine compartment, and fire officials think it was probably electrical in nature. He says the car was totaled in the blaze.
Van Beek tells us that on Friday, Inwood firefighters responded to a call of a baler on fire in a field northeast of Inwood.
He says they arrived to find the farmer keeping the fire at bay with a fire extinguisher. He says they did spray some water on the fire, which was basically contained to the baler. Their water helped stop the fire for good.
Van Beek says a bearing going out on the baler gets the blame for the fire. He says the baler looks repairable.
Inwood firefighters were at both fires for between 45 minutes and an hour.
