It’s National Caramel Apple Day!
Caramel apples originated in the 1950s, likely as an accidental creation by a Kraft Foods employee who melted leftover Halloween caramels to coat apples.
The recipe was a hit and soon appeared on Kraft caramel packages nationwide, though some other sources suggest the idea may have been developed earlier.
Over time, they evolved from the simple treat into more elaborate versions with various toppings and the first caramel apple machine was patented in 1960.
