Last Month’s Flood Having Lasting Impacts On Spencer’s Downtown Area

Spencer – Officials with Grand Avenue Community Outreach, in the former Tangney Hotel building in downtown Spencer, have announced their permanent closure.

In a post on their Facebook page, the non-profit group says the losses they incurred in the 100-year-old building have been tremendous, saying the repairs and ongoing maintenance required for such an old structure are more than what the organization can bear. They add that for the health and safety of their tenants and guests, the building is now inaccessible.

Grand Avenue Community Outreach provided essential services such as food, clothing, medical care, and various other support programs.

They add that they plan to continue serving meals with a volunteer team and that they’re working on plans for an alternative kitchen.

The post goes on to say that any remaining donations will go to support or establish similar outreaches in Spencer.

Meanwhile, another business in downtown Spencer that had just re-opened under new ownership just prior to the flood has also announced it’s closing. In a Facebook post, the owners of Carroll’s Bakery said that their last day for business was July 20th. They added that they plan to have some exciting news forthcoming.
