Le Mars Woman Taken To Hospital After Sioux Center Accident

Sioux Center, Iowa– A Le Mars woman was taken to the hospital after an accident in Sioux Center on Sunday, November 17, 2024.

The Sioux Center Police Department reports that at about 7:20 p.m., 28-year-old Maria Sanchez De Weatherford of Le Mars was driving a 2017 Honda southbound on South Main Avenue at the Sioux Center Dental corner in Sioux Center. They tell us that 22-year-old Wendy Granillo Sotelo of Sioux Center was westbound on 13th Avenue Southeast in a 2007 Pontiac.

The report says that Sanchez De Weatherford was coming out of a road-closed construction zone, and failed to obey the yield sign protecting the other vehicle, which was traveling westbound through the intersection. Sanchez De Weatherford collided with the front passenger side of the Granillo Sotelo vehicle before veering to the right, crossing over the curb, striking a light pedestal, and ultimately coming to a stop in the grass.

The Sioux Center Ambulance took Sanchez De Weatherford to Sioux Center Health Hospital.

Granillo Sotelo reported no injuries.

Both vehicles were totaled, with about $8000 damage each. The street light base was valued at $2000.

Sanchez De Weatherford was charged with no insurance and failure to obey traffic control device.
