Sheldon, Iowa — While we’d like to have left COVID in 2020, anecdotal evidence would suggest that perhaps there is a COVID spike in northwest Iowa. We talked to a local medical provider, and she says that could be the case.
Dr. Amy Badberg, a physician with Sanford Sheldon Medical Center says more COVID tests are coming back positive.
She says while the whole nation seems to be in a positive COVID test uptick, that has not turned into a large number of hospitalizations.
Dr. Badberg says they’re not sure if it’s a new variant of COVID, but that’s the direction they’re leaning. She says there are a number of reasons that we may be seeing the increase.
Badberg says just like with seasonal influenza, no vaccine is perfect, but getting vaccinated does seem to limit the severity of the illness.
We asked Badberg what she thinks is on the horizon
She gives us some additional tips to keep from becoming a COVID victim.
