Lyon County, Iowa — A drone deployed by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office located an intoxicated individual passed out in below-freezing temperatures in rural Lyon County, potentially preventing serious injury or death.
According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy launched the drone at night before clearing from an unrelated incident to check a wooded area for anyone attempting to evade arrest or in need of assistance. During the search, the deputy identified a person unconscious due to intoxication.
Authorities said prolonged exposure to subzero temperatures combined with heavy intoxication can be life-threatening. The individual was located in time for appropriate care to be provided.
