Lester, Iowa– A Sibley teen’s passenger was taken to the hospital after an accident at Lester on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 2:40 p.m., 17-year-old Gabriel Bevers of Sibley was driving a 2016 Chevy westbound on Highway 9, in front of the Keith’s corner gas station at Lester. They tell us that 57-year-old Kevin Hickman of Larchwood was also westbound on 9 in a 2021 Ram pickup, in front of the Bevers vehicle.
The report says that Hickman slowed or stopped the pickup he was driving to yield to traffic before turning south into a driveway. The report says Bevers failed to stop in assured clear distance and struck the rear of the Hickman pickup.
The Lyon County Ambulance took a passenger in the vehicle Bevers was driving, 17-year-old Issabel Sanchez, of Rushmore, Minnesota, to Avera Rock Rapids.
The Chevy sustained $15,000 in damages, which totaled the vehicle, and Hickman’s Ram pickup sustained $8000 in damages.
Bevers was charged with failure to stop in assured clear distance. He was also charged with failure to maintain or use safety belts.
