Sheldon, Iowa — A Marcus man has been arrested on felony drug charges in Sheldon.
Sheldon Police have filed a criminal complaint in O’Brien County charging 54-year-old Matthew Simons of Marcus with a third or subsequent offense of possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested on Tuesday.
In his statement, the officer says Simons was originally stopped for equipment and registration violations. He says Simons took an abnormally long time to pull over for the officer. The officer noticed that Simons had bloodshot and watery eyes and dilated pupils, he was fidgety, and the officer writes that the artery in Simons neck was pulsating very fast. He also noted other signs of impairment. During the stop, the Sheldon K9, Balin, indicated the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. The officer says he found two bags of methamphetamine.
Simons was charged with third or subsequent offense possessionof a controlled substance, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. He also faces a misdemeanor operating while intoxicated charge.
He faces a preliminary hearing on February 20th.
At last report, Simons remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar in lieu of bond.
