Medical Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing North Of Rock Rapids

Rock Rapids, Iowa — No one was hurt when a medical helicopter made an emergency landing Sunday evening just north of Rock Rapids in Lyon County.

Authorities say a Life Flight helicopter, based out of Fort Dodge, was headed to Sioux Falls when it apparently collided with a bird, damaging the windshield and a rotor. The pilot was able to safely land the chopper on some grass. There are mixed reports as to where the helicopter had taken off. An earlier report had stated it was Spencer, but now there are indications it may have been Spirit Lake.

The incident took place around 6:19 pm. Other details weren’t immediately available.
