May City, Iowa — A Milford man has been arrested on a felony burglary charge after he was found near a May City area farm.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Osceola County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 35-year-old Chase Hagedorn of Milford is accused of breaking into the residence and attempted theft. He was arrested last week.
In his statement, the deputy says he had placed cameras at the place earlier, due to theft occuring at the residence. When he got there, he says he saw Hagedorn standing outside his vehicle. He says the cameras showed him getting out of his vehicle, and he was allegedly in possession of a roll of aluminum that was observed at the farm place the day before. The owner says Hagedorn has no ties to the owner or the property. Both doors to the home had been found kicked in, and there were footprints in the snow consistent with Hagedorn’s boots, says the deputy.
He was charged with third-degree burglary, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of driving while barred.
He was also arrested on charges of fifth-degree theft, trespassing, and on a warrant out of Pocahontas County for failure to appear.
Hagedorn faces a preliminary hearing on the new charges on February 19th.
At last report, he remained in the Osceola County Jail in Sibley in lieu of a $5000 cash or surety bond.
