Myer: School May Look Rough Now But Will Be Ready For Students By Mid-August; Completion In 2027

Sheldon, Iowa — It’s been about a month since we’ve talked to Sheldon Community Schools Superintendent Cory Myer about the construction going on at Sheldon High School.

Myer says it really changed the look of the building from the outside when the iconic north entrance — that had been there for generations — was removed.

Myer says one nice thing about the plan is that everything will be on one level, with no steps.

He says those who see the school may think it looks a little rough right now.

Mr. Myer says they’re trying to do some advance work to make it easier to work on other areas in the fall when students are in the building.

Myer says the exterior additions and work on the interior middle corridor should both be done by the end of this summer, with full project completion in the spring of 2026.

A 19-million-dollar bond issue was passed in November of 2023. The total project cost is estimated to be $32.9 million. Ground was broken on the project nearly eleven months ago.

Mr. Myer made his comments Friday on the KIWA Talk of the Town Program, which can be heard on weekday mornings at 8:30 on KIWA-FM 105.3. We also post a podcast of every Talk of The Town Program, and you can find those by clicking here.
