Rock Rapids, Iowa — Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon may open a satellite facility in Rock Rapids.
The facility would mainly offer dual-enrollment opportunities for high school students, according to NCC President Dr. John Hartog. He tells us about the project for which NCC has applied for a grant.
Hartog tells us about the vision.
They don’t know where in Rock Rapids the facility may be located, or if it might be a new building or a new use for an existing building, but Dr. Hartog says if it’s a new facility, they might be able to bring down the cost a little and provide other opportunities by utilizing the talents of NCC students for the dirt work and electrical wiring.
He gives us some more details.
Dr. Hartog says that at this time, they are considering offering the career pathways of agriculture, which would include the industry-recognized credential of private pesticide applicator; business, which would include the industry-recognized credential of Microsoft Office certification; education, which would include the industry-recognized credential of para-educator certification; and healthcare, which would include the industry-recognized credential of certified nursing assistant (CNA). Dr. Hartog says some careers would, of course, reqire additional education after the student’s time at NCC.
