Sheldon, Iowa — A northwest Iowa institution of higher learning has again achieved a high ranking.
Officials with Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC) in Sheldon tell us the college has received national recognition in the 2025 Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. They say that affirms the college’s mission of “empowering students through accessible, high-quality, affordable education.”
They tell us NCC was classified as a Professions-focused Associate: Small institution. They say that highlights NCC’s commitment to hands-on, career-centered learning. In addition, NCC received the classification of Opportunity Colleges and Universities – Higher Access, Higher Earnings within the Student Access and Earnings category. They say that designation recognizes institutions that expand educational access while delivering strong wage outcomes for graduates.
NCC officials tell us NCC is the only community college in Iowa—and one of only a few institutions statewide, including some regional four-year colleges and universities—to receive both of these designations. They say the distinction “…underscores NCC’s unique position in providing accessible, affordable, career-focused education that leads to strong post-graduation earnings.” You can view NCC’s full classification profile by clicking here.
