Sioux Center, Iowa — A new non-profit in Northwest Iowa is stepping up to support mothers and their babies by providing much-needed essentials. Northwest Iowa Baby Shower is driven by a group of women passionate about filling critical resource gaps for families in need.
Jan Henryson, who has founded several other non-profits, talks about the idea that initiated the new project:
Henryson explained further the inspiration behind the endeavor:
They discovered that essential items like diapers, formula, and baby clothing were often out of reach for struggling mothers. Lisa Doleman is one of the founding members as well. She says these needs are not met by other programs:
Their efforts include assembling care packages with essentials—such as diapers, wipes, bottles, and even handmade baby blankets. They’ve also partnered with Justice for All to collect baby clothing and gently used equipment like strollers and pack-and-plays. Doleman went on to talk about maximizing monetary donations as well:
Henryson emphasizes the importance of making their services accessible to all:
Doleman highlights an upcoming event for Northwest Iowa Baby Shower.
The distribution day, the Community Baby Shower, will be held at the Former 2nd Appearance Store in downtown Sioux Center. Other drop-off sites include Snap Fitness, Justice for All, and 712 Nutrition.
