New Year’s Sheldon Fireworks

Sheldon, Iowa — It used to be allowed in Sheldon to shoot off fireworks for a couple of weeks in late December and early January. But now that’s not the case.

The City of Sheldon reminds the public that winter fireworks are only allowed between the hours of 9:00 a.m. this New Year’s Eve, December 31st, and 12:30 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Therefore, the fireworks window for New Year’s Eve is now 15 hours and just a half an hour early on New Year’s Day.

The ordinance also states that people are not to use or explode consumer fireworks on real property other than their own or the property of someone who has consented to their use.

Plus, people under the age of 18 cannot shoot off fireworks unless they are under the direct supervision of their parent or guardian.

Fireworks ordinances vary by community, but a new state law says fireworks cannot be banned by cities on July 3rd and 4th or December 31st and just into January 1st. So make sure you are following the ordinance in your community.
