Nobles County Deputy Seriously Injured In Sunday Crash

Rushmore, Minnesota — A two-vehicle collision on Sunday on Interstate 90 near Rushmore seriously injured a Nobles County Sheriff’s Deputy.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, 63-year-old Theresa Bear of Sioux Falls was driving a 2020 Chevy Equinox westbound on I-90, and 30-year-old Arnold Waldner, a Nobles County Sheriff’s Deputy, was the driver of a 2023 Dodge Durango squad vehicle. Troopers say the squad car was parked with lights activated while the deputy was assisting the State Patrol by directing traffic for a crash investigation. They tell us Bear’s Chevy struck the squad car.

Bear sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Luverne hospital. Waldner sustained life-threatening injuries and, at last report, was in critical condition.

Waldner has been with the Nobles County Sheriff’s Office for two years. A fund has been established to assist the family at First State Bank Southwest in Worthington.

Rushmore Fire and Rescue, the Nobles County Sheriff’s Office, and the Adrian Ambulance Squad assisted with the response to the accident.
