Alton, Iowa — One person has died as a result of a house fire in Alton on Thursday night.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office tells us emergency responders were dispatched to a residential structure fire in Alton. They tell us one person was home at the time of the fire and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The person’s name has not been released.
Fire crews were able to bring the fire under control, and emergency personnel remained on scene until late Thursday night to ensure safety and assist with the ongoing investigation.
They tell us the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office has been requested and will be investigating the cause of the fire, with assistance from the Orange City Police Department.
The Alton Ambulance Squad, Orange City Fire Department, Orange City Ambulance Squad, Orange City Police Department, and Sioux County Emergency Management Agency provided assistance.
The Sheriff’s Office says no additional information is being released at this time. They say further details will be provided as they become available.
