Rock Rapids, Iowa — One person was taken to a hospital after an accident near Rock Rapids on Thursday.
According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, 61-year-old Consuelo Benavides of Rock Rapids was northbound on Harding Avenue, about a mile and two-thirds north-northwest of Rock Rapids in a 2020 GMC Terrain when she was struck by a turning vehicle, initially traveling southbound. That vehicle was a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by 52-year-old Peter Almas of Sioux Falls.
The Lyon County Ambulance took one person to a hospital, but the report doesn’t identify the victim.
Both vehicles had disabling damage.
Almas was charged with no proof of insurance and unsafe turn or failure to give signal.
The Rock Rapids Fire Department, Lyon County Ambulance Squad, and The Tow Co. also responded to the accident.
