One Woman From Sheldon, One From Sanborn Taken To Hospital After Monday Crash East Of Town

Sheldon, Iowa– A Sheldon woman and a Sanborn woman were taken to the hospital after an accident near Sheldon on Monday, April 6, 2026.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 5:25 a.m., 34-year-old Marbel Montiel Candia of Sheldon was driving a 2020 Nissan westbound on Highway 18, a little over a mile east of the 18 and 60 interchange. They tell us that 57-year-old Lori Schilling of Sanborn was westbound on 18 in a 2014 Ford.

The report alleges that Schilling passed Montiel Candia in a marked No Passing Zone. The deputy says Schilling crossed over the centerline and struck Montiel Candia. Schilling’s car entered the west ditch and came to rest in a residential yard.

SCAT took Montiel Candia and Schilling to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.

Montiel Candia’s Nissan sustained an estimated $6,700 in damages, and Schilling’s Ford sustained an estimated $5,100 in damages.

Schilling was charged with passing contrary to highway sign or marking.
