Orange City, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — An Orange City man has been arrested following a months-long sex abuse investigation that began earlier this year in Alton.
According to the Orange City Police Department, 21-year-old Cody Patrick Van Engen turned himself in to the Sioux County Jail on Tuesday, April 7th, on two arrest warrants tied to the investigation.
Authorities say the case began in January 2026. During the investigation, they say they found that Van Engen had alleged ongoing contact with a 12‑year‑old girl on multiple occasions and engaged in illegal sexual conduct.
Van Engen was booked into the Sioux County Jail and cited on the charges of second-degree sex abuse involving a victim under the age of 12, a Class B felony; and grooming, a Class D felony.
Under Iowa law, a Class B felony carries a prison sentence of up to 25 years, while a Class D felony carries a sentence of up to five years.
Court records show his bond has been set at $25,000 cash or surety.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.
A criminal charge is only an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
