Orange City, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — Orange City is gaining statewide recognition for the very qualities locals have long taken pride in.
The community has been named one of Iowa’s “10 Storybook Towns” by World Atlas. The publication highlighted Orange City’s Dutch heritage, walkable downtown, and unique cultural identity.
Orange City City Administrator Matt Van Schouwen says the recognition stands out not just for what it says about the city, but who it places Orange City alongside.
The World Atlas feature points to Orange City’s distinct Dutch influence, highlighting Windmill Park and its iconic structures, the Tulip Festival, and the consistent architectural style throughout downtown.
Van Schouwen says those features aren’t accidental.
That intentionality includes everything from city‑supported Dutch‑style storefronts to seasonal tulip plantings, as well as long‑term planning efforts designed to maintain a cohesive look and feel throughout the community.
But beyond the visuals, Van Schouwen says the recognition reflects community pride.
He says Orange City’s cleanliness, welcoming atmosphere, and strong sense of ownership among residents all contribute to the experience visitors notice.
City leaders also believe the designation could help introduce Orange City to new audiences, reinforcing its appeal as a destination for both short visits and longer stays.
