Orange City, Iowa — An Oyens man has been arrested on a felony domestic abuse assault charge after a call about an alleged assault that was said to have occurred in a vehicle near Carnes.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31-year-old Thomas Jones on Friday. He is accused of assaulting a woman, as stated in a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s office.
In his statement, the deputy says the victim told him that a verbal dispute turned physical, and among other things, Jones is accused of slapping a cell phone out of the victim’s hand when she was trying to call 911 and physically restraining her when she tried to get the phone. The deputy says he was told she eventually fought him off and made the call to 911.
Jones was charged with domestic abuse assault, third or subsequent offense, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.
Jones faces a preliminary hearing on the charge on Monday, December 8th.
He was booked into the Sioux County Jail in Orange City and was released the next day after posting a $5300 bond.
