Emmetsburg – A two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon in Palo Alto county claimed the life of one person and seriously injured three others.
The Iowa State Patrol says 32-year-old Desiree Sternhagen of Janesville, MN, was driving a 2013 Kia southbound on 480th Avenue and failed to stop at the intersection with 370th Street. Troopers say she collided with a 2018 Mitsubishi driven by 34-year-old Mathia Nieves of Emmetsburg, who was westbound on 370th Street.
A passenger in the vehicle driven by Nieves, 67-year-old Ernest Manwarren of Emmetsburg, died in the crash. Nieves and another passenger in her vehicle, 33-year-old Justin Manwarren of Emmetsburg, along with Sternhagen, the driver of the other vehicle, were all taken to Palo Alto County Hospital with serious injuries.
