Paullina Woman Accused Of Taking Funds From Store

Paullina, Iowa — A Paullina woman has been arrested on theft charges after an incident at the Paullina Dollar General store.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sutherland Police Department, 45-year-old Shawna Johnson of Paullina is accused of making improper transactions at the Dollar General register. She was arrested on Thursday, December 14, 2023.

In his statement, the officer says Johnson was allegedly seen on video making transactions using her phone and the Dollar General register. He says the transactions were transferring funds into PayPal accounts owned by her. He says the total was over $8000.

Johnson was charged with second-degree theft, a class D felony. If convicted, Johnson could face up to five years in prison.

She faces a preliminary hearing on the charge on Friday, December 22nd, 2023.

At last report, Johnson remained in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.
