Peoples Bank Pavilion Planned as Next Step in Sioux County Ag Expo Development

Sioux Center, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — A new addition is coming to the Sioux County Ag Expo campus, aimed at expanding event space and supporting year-round use of the growing facility.

The Sioux County Ag Expo has announced plans for the Peoples Bank Pavilion, a 40-by-90-foot, semi‑open, timber‑framed gathering space that will serve as a flexible hub for events, meals and community activities. The project is being made possible through a partnership with Peoples Bank.

Jenn Vermeer, project manager for the Sioux County Ag Expo, says the pavilion represents continued momentum for the campus as development moves forward.

The pavilion is part of the first phase of a broader long-term plan for the Ag Expo grounds, which also includes the Ag Discovery Barn and a horse arena completed in recent years. Together, those projects mark continued progress as the site, located on the former Sioux Center airport property, transitions into a year-round destination for agriculture, education, and community events.

Organizers say the pavilion will help fill a key gap on the campus by providing a covered, yet open-air space that can be used in a variety of ways.

Vermeer says the structure will allow for expanded programs, especially during warmer months.

The pavilion is expected to play a significant role during the Sioux County Youth Fair, offering space for food service, volunteer coordination, and general gathering. It will also be used for weddings, receptions, graduation parties, and other community events.

Jessica Van Driel, spokeswoman for the Sioux County Ag Expo, says the addition helps round out the facility as demand continues to grow.

Organizers say the project reflects both strong community support and a shared vision for the future of agriculture and youth programming in Sioux County. Peoples Bank CEO Al Vermeer noted in a release that the investment is rooted in supporting agriculture and creating spaces that bring people together.

The Ag Expo itself operates as a nonprofit organization and works closely with the Sioux County Fair Board, while also hosting a wide range of activities, including 4-H events, livestock programming, and community gatherings.

Vermeer says the pavilion is just one step in a larger vision.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for next Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Ag Expo grounds, located at 3030 360th Street in Sioux Center, next to the Ag Discovery Barn. Parking will be available on the former runway. The event will include brief remarks, recognition of project partners, and a ceremonial groundbreaking.

Construction is expected to be completed later this fall, weather permitting. Organizers say bookings are already underway for events beginning later this year.
