Rock Valley, Iowa — Nearly 600 power customers in Rock Valley were without power on Sunday night — some of them into Monday morning.
MidAmerican Energy spokesperson Geoff Greenwood tells us that thunderstorms moved through the area Sunday night. He says it appears that at around 9:45 p.m., lightning struck a power pole on 14th Street east of 22nd Avenue in Rock Valley, cutting power to 577 customers – mostly in the city of Rock Valley.
He tells us that around 11:15 p.m., their crews were able to restore all but 15 customers.
They worked overnight to remove and replace the pole, overhead line, and components, and restored the remaining customers just before 5:00 a.m. Monday morning.
