Sioux Center, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — A protest planned in Sioux Center later this month will be part of a nationwide day of demonstrations organized under the banner “No Kings.”
Sioux Center volunteers say the event is scheduled for Saturday, March 28th, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Central Park in Sioux Center.
Organizers say the protest is intended to oppose actions taken by the Trump administration that they believe are excessively violent or unconstitutional, and they describe the event as a peaceful gathering focused on protecting democratic institutions.
According to organizers, the event will begin with a short program in Central Park at 1 p.m. Afterward, participants plan to line the sidewalks along Highway 75 holding signs and American flags.
Volunteer Kim Van Es, who is helping organize the Sioux Center event, says similar demonstrations have already drawn participation from people in Northwest Iowa who have traveled to protests in other cities.
Van Es says many people from the region have previously attended demonstrations in places such as Sioux City, Sioux Falls, Omaha, Minneapolis, and even farther away, so it was time to have one in Sioux County.
Van Es says organizers hope the Sioux Center event will bring together people with a range of political backgrounds who share concerns about the use of presidential authority.
The Sioux Center demonstration is part of a greater coordinated effort across the country. Organizers say thousands of “No Kings” protests are planned in every state on March 28, with millions of participants expected nationwide.
Event organizers say participants are welcome to bring their own signs or purchase a limited number of signs available at the event. They also encourage attendees to bring water bottles or folding chairs if needed.
Organizers say a core principle of the demonstrations is a commitment to nonviolent action. Participants are expected to act lawfully, avoid confrontation, and follow any directions from law enforcement officers.
