Renewal Now Available For Off-Highway Vehicles

Northwest Iowa — If you own an off-highway vehicle, now is the time to renew its registration.

County Recorders in northwest Iowa tell us that off-highway vehicle owners can now renew their registrations for all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), off-road utility vehicles(ORVs), off-road motorcycles (ORMs), and snowmobiles. They say the registration window opened September 1st and closes December 31st, 2025. To do so, they tell us you can visit any county recorder’s Office, or go to the Iowa DNR’s online licensing site: gooutdoorsiowa.com. They say you should allow 5-10 business days for online registrations to arrive in the mail.

All nonresident user permits for snowmobiles and OHVs also expire December 31st. There is no late penalty for a permit purchased after January 1st, as they are issued for a calendar year. User permits are required for nonresident machines used on public land or ice. Nonresident off-road vehicles registered in their home state must display a user permit. Residents operating an off-highway vehicle or snowmobile require a current registration but do not need a user permit. If you have any questions, call the county recorder’s office.
