Rural Hartley Couple Arrested On Insurance Fraud Charges

Hartley, Iowa — A husband and wife from rural Hartley were arrested earlier this week on insurance fraud charges.

Authorities say 34-year-old Jeremy Poduska and 34-year-old Alicia Poduska were taken into custody Wednesday evening as part of an investigation by the Iowa Insurance Fraud Bureau. Jeremy Poduska was charged with insurance fraud, presenting false information. Alicia Poduska was charged with insurance fraud-conspiracy. Both charges are class “D” felonies. If convicted, they could face up to five years in prison.

Court documents accuse the couple of fraudulently submitting a document to an insurance company to try to receive a payment of more than $13,000. The documents allege that Jeremy Poduska, a farmer, listed a fictitious company on an insurance claim and falsely identified Alicia Poduska, an insurance adjuster, as an authorized contact person.

The two have since been released from jail after posting bonds of $5,000 each.
