Sheldon, Iowa — Details are few and far between, but the east Casey’s in Sheldon is closing.
Casey’s spokesperson Katie Petru says that she can confirm Casey’s is closing the location at Highway 18 and Washington Avenue. She says, “We look forward to continuing to serve our guests in the Sheldon community from our other location in town.” No further details were available.
Casey’s has had two locations in Sheldon since 2011, when they bought the former Kum & Go location that sat where the west Casey’s sits now, on the southwest corner of the intersection of Highway 18 and Old Highway 60 (2nd Avenue). The former SuperAmerica location across the street, southeast of the current west Casey’s location, was also part of that transaction. It got sold to It’s Lit Fireworks. Part of the deal was that the property could not be a convenience store or compete with Casey’s, which appears to be a common stipulation when Casey’s sells property.
The Casey’s that is closing is on property that used to be the Sheldon Pizza Hut. There’s been no word on any offers made to employees or what will become of the property after it closes.
