In old business, the council had the second reading of the rezoning ordinance to rezone 331 N. 5th Avenue and 415 W. Park Street. There was a motion to waive the third reading and approve the ordinance, but City Manager Sam Kooiker said that there had been some discussions with the Sheldon Chamber and Development Corporation (SCDC) and the owners, so a third reading was recommended. The motion was changed and passed.
In new business, the council passed the amended and restated Sheldon Urban Renewal Plan, and they approved a development agreement between the SCDC and the city.
The council heard the presentation of the fiscal year 2025 audit. The audit summary didn’t indicate any large issues. You can hear the full presentation on the video below.
The council also heard from the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team (SCAT) and the Sheldon Regional Airport Commission in regard to their capital improvement plans.
They also approved the capital improvement plan after one council member reminded the public that the plan is just a roadmap for the budgeting process.
The council also heard an update on the CAPS program project for the arch on Highway 18 across the street from the City Park. They are still working out the details, including where the funds will come from.
