Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council will meet in special session at 4:00 p.m. this Wednesday afternoon in the council chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center across 9th Street from KIWA Radio. Note that the meeting time is half an hour earlier than the regular meeting time.
The council will decide whether to approve the minutes of the previous council meeting on September 17th, and pay any claims.
The main part of the meeting is an emergency operations planning update with O’Brien County Emergency Management Director Jared Johnson. Johnson will give some highlights from the disasters that the City faced in the last year, including June 2024 flooding and the July 2025 derecho. Then he will present two exercise scenarios that he and the council will go over. One has to do with potential flooding, and the other is a possible unknown gas smell.
The meeting starts at 4:00 p.m. in the council chambers. Sheldon City Council Meetings are normally available on YouTube.
