Sheldon Council Approves Stormwater Fee

Sheldon, Iowa — With one council member voting against the move, the Sheldon City Council has enacted the new stormwater fee.

At their meeting, they approved the consent agenda and then went right into discussing the stormwater fee ordinance. The proposed ordinance had already had its first and second readings and was slated for a third reading, which enacts the ordinance into law.

Councilman Ken Snyder continued to be against the move.

Council Member Chantel Oostra says it’s like a business expense.

Council Member Brad Hindt says it could be worse.

City Public Works Director Todd Uhl told the council that the need exists. He says most years they use far more for storm sewer upkeep than this fee would even collect.

The ordinance did pass, with Snyder casting the lone no vote.

The council also talked about a City Park Master Plan. It was decided that the Park Board and the City Council will research and discuss with Beck Engineering and come up with some ideas for the public to consider.
