Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council met in regular session at 4:30 p.m. this Wednesday afternoon in the council chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center.

They approved the consent agenda. Click here for the details.

In old business, the council passed the second reading of the ordinance amendments pertaining to illegal dumping and requiring recyclable items that are placed curbside (such as cardboard) to fit in compliant cans.

In new business, the council passed a resolution accepting the donation of a grain vac, valued at approximately $45,000, from the Farm Bureau Federation for use by the Sheldon Fire Company to help in grain rescues locally and around the area.

They also discussed signage with Sheldon Chamber and Development Director Tania Herrera Gonzales, and passed a moratorium on issuing off-premise signs and billboards while they work on new regulations. They decided to add all new digital signs of any type, or updates to existing digital signs, to this temporary moratorium. It was noted that if people have questions or concerns, they can bring them to the city council, and each case will be considered separately for the time being.

The council also heard an update on the Lifelong Learning & Recreation Center from Northwest Iowa Community College Director of Athletics & LLRC, Eric Francis.
