Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Fire Company is always training. But firefighters recently had some special training in Sheldon.
Sheldon Fire Chief Brad Hindt tells us about it.
Hindt tells us firefighters are always rescuing people from fires and other hazards, but a “mayday” call is when a firefighter is in trouble and needs rescuing him or herself. When that happens, he says a “RIT” team is sent in. RIT stands for Rapid Intervention Team.
And then, he says they try to find the quickest way to exit the structure with the downed firefighter.
Hindt says the Sheldon Fire Company has regular training sessions.
Hindt says life keeps changing and so firefighters have to keep training to continue to be up-to-date on the best ways to handle emergencies.
