Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon business is sponsoring an event to raise awareness of, and to help serve the needs of, northwest Iowa soldiers deployed in Syria.
Perspective Insurance is sponsoring what’s known as a “red out” in January at a high school basketball game. They are also selling t-shirts, with proceeds going to help the effort as well. Trisha Cannoy with Perspective Insurance says a new light was shed on the plight of our soldiers in Syria when two of them were killed in a recent attack. She tells us more.
The red-out basketball game is over a month away, on January 23rd, 2026. The Sheldon Orabs will face the Harris-Lake Park Wolves that night in double-header action. But the deadline to order a special t-shirt for the event is this coming Monday, December 22nd.
There will be other ways to help that night too, says Cannoy.
She says they’ll also be looking for shampoo, body wash, protein bars, beef jerky, and cookies. They tell us Oreos and Chips Ahoy travel the best.
Cannoy tells us how this all got started.
She says they’d like to be able to send 300 shirts to Syria. For more information, you can call Perspective Insurance in Sheldon.
