Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Public Library has free internet. Sort of.
Of course, you’ve been able to use the Library’s wifi when you come to the library for quite a while. But now, they will check out an internet hotspot to you, free of charge.
Library Director Nicole Weber tells us about the program.
She says the hotspots come with service too.
And the kicker is — you don’t have to pay for it.
Weber says, however, that you of course, can’t just keep the hotspot. Just like a book, it can be checked out for two weeks, and may be renewed once, but then you have to return it and the next person on the waiting list gets their turn. She says if someone does decide to abuse the policy, library staff can remotely turn them off.
She tells us the idea behind the program.
Weber says you can reserve a hotspot through the library website or by contacting the library. She says most things don’t have late fees at the library, but the hotspots do.
She says they’re trying out the hotspots for a year to see how it goes.
Library personnel tell us they have had good interest in the hotspots already, with a couple of people getting a new library card with the main purpose of checking out a hotspot.
