Sheldon Man Taken To Hospital After Accident At Klondike

Klondike, Iowa– A Sheldon man was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital after an accident near Klondike on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that at about 10:10 a.m., 70-year-old Marlyn Van Hill of Alvord was driving a 2016 Kenworth semi eastbound on 180th Street (A26), just east of the Big Sioux River, or four miles south and five west of Larchwood. They tell us that 64-year-old Ricky Klein of Sheldon was westbound on 180th in a 2021 Ford.

The report says that Van Hill was negotiating a curve in the roadway. Van Hill went into the eastbound lane while negotiating the curve. Klein saw Van Hill in his lane, so he went to the right onto the shoulder and onto Ashley Avenue in an attempt to avoid the semi. The rear part of the semi trailer struck Klein’s vehicle.

The Lyon County Ambulance took Klein to Sanford University Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

The Van Hill Kenworth semi, owned by Idlenot Farms sustained $2500 in damages, and Klein’s Ford sustained $10000 in damages.

Van Hill was charged with driving in improper lane.
