Sheldon Woman, Sioux Center Woman Taken To Hospital After Alton Area Crash

Alton, Iowa — A woman from Sheldon and one from Sioux Center were taken to a hospital after a crash on Thursday afternoon.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that shortly after 1:45 p.m., 69-year-old Brenda Dokter of Sioux Center was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse westbound on Kingbird Avenue, a mile northeast of Alton. They tell us 20-year-old Hannah Van Maaren of Sheldon was driving a 2011 Ford Edge southbound on Highway 60. According to the investigating deputy, Dokter failed to stop at the stop sign at Highway 60, entered the southbound lane, and the vehicles collided.

Both drivers were transported to Orange City Area Health System.

The vehicles sustained approximately $10,000 in damage, each.

Dokter was cited on a charge of failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way.
