Sheldon’s February Was Cold And Dry

Sheldon, Iowa — The month of February 2025 was colder and drier than normal in Sheldon.

According to the weather facts collected by KIWA Radio, the highest high was 59 degrees, recorded on February 23rd. The lowest high temperature was -6 degrees, recorded on February 17th.

The lowest low in the month was -20, recorded three times — on the 13th, 18th, and 17th of the month. We recorded below-zero low temperatures thirteen times in the month. The highest low was 32 on the 26th.

The average high for the month was 28. The normal is 30. The average low was 4. The normal is 12. The average temperature as-a-whole for the month was 16 degrees, and normally it’s 21.

We received just 0.19 of an inch of precipitation for February. A normal February sees 0.76″, so we were below normal for the month by 0.53 of an inch. Year-to-date precip up until the end of February was 0.23 of an inch. Normal year-to-date precip would be 1.37″, so we were 1.14 inches above normal on the year. The day with the most precip was February 10th when we received 2.5 inches of snow, which melted to 0.09 of an inch of liquid precip.
