Shorted Microwave Gets Blame For Thursday George Fire Call

George, Iowa — The George Fire Department was called out for a fire call on Thursday, August 8, 2024, in George.

According to George Fire Assistant Chief Josh Eben, at about 10:00 a.m., the George Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire at 306 East Indiana Avenue in George.

But he tells us the house didn’t turn out to be on fire. He says the fire department saw white smoke in the home upon entry, which they were able to trace to a microwave that had shorted out.

Assistant Chief Eben says no injuries were reported.

He says the Little Rock Fire Department was ready to provide mutual aid, but once the George firefighters knew what they were dealing with, they turned the Little Rock firefighters around.

Assistant Chief Eben reports that there was minimal smoke damage.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about 45 minutes.
