Sibley, Iowa — A pickup was destroyed in a fire on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, in Sibley.
According to Sibley Fire Chief Ken Huls, at about 9:30 p.m., the Sibley Fire Department was called to the report of a car fire reported to be at 834 3rd Avenue in Sibley.
The chief tells us the address was actually near the fire station, and when the call came in, as luck would have it, the firefighters were having a meeting in the station. Huls says they didn’t see it right away, but it turned out it was only about 15 feet from their building. He says they pulled one truck out of the building and hooked up hoses. Huls jokes that their response time was about 10 seconds. He says they even hooked up the truck to a water supply INSIDE the fire station.
No injuries were reported.
He says the cause of the fire in the GMC pickup is undetermined, but it was probably electrical as the most damage was found around the alternator, and the driver had heard a “pop.”
Chief Huls reports that the pickup was totaled.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for 18 minutes.
