Sibley-Ocheyedan Voters To Decide On PPEL Renewal/Increase

Sibley, Iowa — It will soon be Election Day in the United States. This year is an odd-numbered year, so in Iowa, for the most part, there will not be senators, representatives, or statewide officials on your ballot. But City and School District officials and issues WILL be on the ballot.

Election Day is coming on Tuesday, November 4th, and in Sibley and Ocheyedan, along with candidates, there will be a school funding question.

We talked with Sibley-Ocheyedan Superintendent Stan De Zeeuw, and he tells us about their PPEL question.

But, says De Zeeuw, this time, the PPEL question is not just renewal, but an increase in the rate. He says the issue went before voters in September, but was defeated.

We asked him why they feel the increase is needed.

De Zeeuw says to find out how much this will affect you, you look at the net taxable value of your property. He says you can look up your property on the Beacon site.

De Zeeuw emphasizes that most residential property in the district has a lower net taxable value than that. He says it’s all about the students.

Again, the election is this coming Tuesday, November 4th. If you are a resident of the Sibley-Ocheyedan school district, you can vote at the polls, or, up until election day, you can vote at the County Auditor’s Office in Sibley.
