Sibley Woman Taken To Hospital After Corvette And Kia Collide At Carnes

Carnes, Iowa — A Sibley woman was taken to a hospital after a crash on Monday, September 1st, on Highway 60 near Carnes, which is four miles south of Orange City.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that shortly after 10:45 a.m., 71-year-old Emmagene Martin of Cherokee was driving a 2013 Kia Forte northbound on K64 (Jackson Avenue). They tell us 72-year-old Darlene Janssen of Sibley was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Corvette southbound on Highway 60. Martin attempted to turn left onto Highway 60, and the two vehicles collided in the intersection.

The Orange City Ambulance took Janssen to Orange City Area Health.

The Kia sustained approximately $15,000 in damage. The Corvette sustained approximately $26,000 in damage.

Martin was cited on a charge of failure to yield upon entering a highway.

The sheriff’s office tells us the Orange City Police Department, the Iowa State Patrol, the Orange City Ambulance Squad, and fire departments from both Orange City and Alton assisted with the response to the crash.
