Sioux Center, Iowa — A house was damaged in a fire on Monday, March 16, 2026, in Sioux Center.
According to Sioux Center Firefighter Kelli Willett, at about 12:45 p.m., the Sioux Center Fire Department was called to the report of a house on fire at 103 2nd Avenue Southeast, in central Sioux Center.
When they got there, Willett says the fire department saw smoke from the southwest corner of the house. She says they don’t really know where the fire came from, but the origin was outside the house. She says firefighters had to rip some siding from the house to get at the fire. They also found a recycling bin nearby that had completely melted to the ground. She says they’re not sure if something in the bin caused the fire, or what.
Willett says no injuries were reported.
On house fire calls, the Sioux Center Fire Department always calls for the Orange City Fire Department to respond with their RIT or “Rapid Intervention Team,” which is in charge of keeping track of firefighters in burning buildings and keeping them safe and accounted for. They also have an automatic aid agreement with the Ireton Fire Department, that they respond to structure fire calls in Sioux Center. Both departments arrived, but were not needed, says Willett.
She says the cause of the fire is still undetermined.
Willett reports that the damage was minimal.
She says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for maybe an hour.
