Sioux Center Man Accused Of Driving Recklessly With Child In Vehicle Faces Felony Charge

Maurice, Iowa — A Sioux Center man has been arrested on a felony child endangerment charge.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 48-year-old Sergiy Panasovych of Sioux Center is accused of driving at a dangerous speed with a child in the vehicle. He was arrested on Friday.

In his statement, the deputy says Panasovych was found speeding at 94 miles per hour in a 55 zone. Panasovych allegedly told the officer that he was speeding because he was on the way to get a haircut. He also told the deputy that his 8-year-old daughter was in the back seat. The deputy says he spoke with her and she was scared due to the high rate of speed at which her father had been driving.

Panasovych was charged with child endangerment, a class C felony. If convicted, he could face up to ten years in prison. He also faces a misdemeanor reckless driving charge.

He faces a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, August 26th.

Panasovych was booked into the Sioux County Jail in Orange City, and was released the next day after posting a $10,000 bond.
